FAQ

Is counseling for me?

I truly believe counseling is for everyone. Whether you feel like you have major challenges to work on or just need a little extra support, counseling can provide the time and space you need to find clarity and skills to manage whatever life throws at you. Therapy is a valuable tool in learning more about yourself and gaining valuable skills.

What happens during therapy?

Because therapy is individualized, this looks a little different for each client. However, the general structure is to discuss current stressors and things from your past that contribute to the current issue. As we discuss the stressors, I work to help you gain clarity and provide practical skills that you can utilize when you feel that your life is being affected by the stressors.I ask clients to practice the skill throughout the week and report back at the next session about how it worked. We continue to work together and tailor the process to your individual needs.

Do you provide medications?

No, I am not a physician and unable to provide medications. However I believe that addressing mental and emotional issues through therapy can be just as beneficial. While medications can be helpful for some, it often covers up the symptoms and never truly addresses the problem for others. However, if we determine together that you would like to try medications in conjunction with therapy, I can provide referrals to your primary care doctor or a psychiatrist.

What about privacy?

Our sessions are confidential. I am unable to release information about you or what we discuss in our sessions to anyone without your consent.

By law, your therapist cannot release this information without your written consent, except in the following situations:

  • The therapist suspects there is past or present abuse or neglect of children, adults or elders.

  • The therapist suspects the client is in danger of harming themselves or has threatened to harm another person.
